At First Choice Chiropractic, we take great pride in providing the finest chiropractic care to our patients. Below is a sampling of the different chiropractic services we offer in our Ann Arbor office.

Chiropractic Care

We provide spinal correction utilizing gentle chiropractic techniques. Never in the history of chiropractic have we been able to provide the level of help and expertise that now exists. These newer correction methods are even safer, more comfortable and more effective than ever before. As a doctor of chiropractic, Dr. Tom Klapp has 40+ years of training and experience in chiropractic corrective techniques.

Massage Therapy

Massage therapy offers a natural conservative treatment approach that relieves musculoskeletal pain for many patients. Our office provides specific massage and muscular therapy that is tailored to meet the patient's condition and injury, including neuromuscular therapy, deep tissue, myofascial release and Swedish relaxation. However, we do not offer prenatal massage after 3 months. The benefits of massage therapy may include increasing blood circulation, reducing swelling, relaxing muscles, relieving muscle pain and spasms, and aid in recovery and range of motion.

Corrective Exercises

We teach our patients special "blueprint" exercises to help strengthen and correct their own unique problem. These exercises can be performed in the comfort of your own home and can improve the effectiveness of your spinal correction. In addition to skeletal misalignment, muscles and connective tissues can be out of place or strained by improper alignment and use. Specific exercises and stretches can help your body stay in balance and in health.

Lifestyle Advice

We often find it helpful to "coach" our patients on certain activities they should avoid or do differently to avoid aggravating their particular health challenge. Our goal is to help every patient achieve a fulfilling and happy lifestyle full of the activities they enjoy most. We recognize that each patient is a whole person, and helping them reach true health and wellness is a collaborate effort between our professionals and our patients.

Nutritional Counseling

We provide specific recommendations on nutritional supplements and healthy food choices to enhance our patient´s return to optimal health. Do you know which supplements and vitamins are good for you? Do you know how these supplements and vitamins interact with one another? Our doctors can provide nutritional advice to help you feel better and function better based on your individual needs.

Spinal & Postural Screenings

Posture and spinal screenings can reveal important health information and unlock the door to improved health and well-being. We provide screenings at area malls, community events, health fairs and places of employment. Contact us today to arrange a screening at your event or workplace.

PEMF Therapy

There is a therapy that perfectly complements chiropractic care called “pulsed electro-magnetic field” (PEMF) therapy. PEMF is the perfect complement to chiropractic care due to its effect on cellular function. Chiropractic adjustments restore the nerve impulse to cells, tissues and organs, …while PEMF strengthens and restores function to those cells that have been denied proper nerve energy due to subluxation. The effect is one of synergy, meaning the two together work better than either one alone.

PEMF—what is it?

PEMF is an electro-magnetic field applied to a painful or dysfunctional area of the body. What makes this therapy so powerful is two things: the strength of the magnetic field generated by the machine; and the pulsating of the field around the part of the body that is not functioning properly.

How does it work?

PEMF works by re-energizing damaged cells by inducing electrical changes within the cell that restore it to its normal healthy state. It improves the ability of the membrane of the cell to allow the oxygen, water and nutrients it needs into the cell… and allows the metabolic wastes to exit the cell in a normal manner. The pulsing action of the PEMF literally “exercises” the cells that are exposed to the magnetic field and allows them to normalize.

What are the benefits: Because of this cellular exercise, cellular metabolism is boosted, blood cells are regenerated, circulation is improved, and oxygen carrying capacity is increased.

Weakened or damaged cells are the cause of many health problems. The treatment of these cells with energy allows them to return to normal function.

Regaining normal cell function is the key to ALL healing! PEMF helps cells regain normal function.

PEMF therapy increases:

  • Circulation
  • Energy to cells
  • Blood oxygen
  • Cell hydration
  • Bone density
  • Lean muscle mass
  • Flexibility
  • Range of motion
  • Stamina
  • Strength
  • Endurance
  • Immune system function
  • Nerve response
  • Muscle response

PEMF therapy decreases:

  • Pain
  • Stiffness
  • Swelling /edema
  • Inflammation
  • Spasms
  • Stress
  • Bruises

PEMF helps the body to:

  • Repair damaged tissue
  • Enhance the synthesis of protein
  • Absorb oxygen better
  • Repair ligaments and tendons
  • Stimulate the healing process
  • Become more alkaline

Is it safe and are there any side effects?

These treatments are completely safe and there are no side effects. Even the most chronic health problems can be helped—often after only a few treatments.

Does it hurt?

PEMF treatments are completely painless. Treatments last from 15 to 20 minutes.

What can PEMF help?

  • Bulging spinal discs
  • Joint pain (shoulders, wrists, fingers, hips, knees ankles, feet, etc.)
  • Back and neck pain
  • Numbness in hands Numbness in feet
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Alzheimer’s disease
